RemixED – Innovating Teacher Professional Development with Team-based Learning Design

Project Summary:

RemixED is an Erasmus+ funded project that aims to:

  • Co-create a sustainable teacher professional development approach and supporting technology (based on the remixing of lesson plans).
  • Help teachers adopt student centred learning approaches and inclusive teaching strategies by providing expert guidance.
  • Improve mental health literacy by using and improving existing open educational resources related to the science of stress from the Spotlighters E+ project.

The need for RemixED emerged from the COVID-19 pandemic, a context in which many teachers in Europe were forced to rapidly adopt online and blended learning. The short time frame that teachers had to prepare the new teaching scenarios often resulted in improvised solutions and suboptimal uses of technology and pedagogy. Teachers were ill-prepared but found value in the informal support of their peers and from shared teaching resources. Building on the need to improve the pedagogical use of technology and the value teachers found from peer support and shared resources, RemixED aims to establish an ongoing team-based learning design approach to continuing professional development for teachers. Teachers practice documenting learning activities, improving them with peers, and sharing them with the educational community. Specific guidance is provided to make digital lessons more socially inclusive and student-centered.

Moreover, mental health has suffered due to COVID-19. RemixED contributes to efforts to improve teacher and student well-being by introducing lessons on the science of stress and evidence-based stress management techniques. Via RemixED teachers practice the team-based learning design approaches using the material from the Erasmus+ Spotlighters project – a collaboration of neuroscientists, education researchers, and schools.

The consortium includes 3 higher educational institutions, a social enterprise, and 4 schools spread across 3 countries: Spain, Denmark and Cyprus.
